Former Manchester United midfielder Roy Keane does not believe Christian Eriksen will help elevate the team to the Premier League title race.
The Denmark international started his side’s 2-1 defeat at home to Brighton in the English Premier League opener, having been on the pitch for 90 minutes.
Despite Keane’s praise for Eriksen’s pace, the 30-year-old is still not good enough to help the ufabet club win the league title this season.
“I think he’s a very good player,” Keane told Sky Sports. “Will he help Manchester United come back and fight for the league title? The answer is no.”
“My biggest concern with a player like Christian, and one of the biggest problems with Manchester United for the past one or two years, has been possession of the ball against superior opponents.”
“So this is not his strength. He’s a talented player but it doesn’t get there. But he’s a good player.”
Chelsea have reportedly considered a move for the goalscorer, having let Romelu Lukaku leave on loan to Inter. It is unlikely that the Red Devils would be willing to let the 37-year-old move to a direct Premier League rival, but they may accept if the situation leads to dressing room problems.
While Cristiano Ronaldo’s future is still in the air, he will hope to enjoy some minutes against Brighton and add his name to the scoresheet from the bench.
